[LNB]Owen's spell in the wilderness has cast doubts on his ability to break Charlton's record, however, despite his summer move to Manchester United.[LNB]So Rooney, currently 12th in the all-time goal standings with 25 goals from 55 appearances, has emerged as the likeliest long-term threat to Charlton. [LNB]But while the United forward admits that he is determined to overhaul the Old Trafford legend, Rooney admits that he still fancies Owen to beat him to the 50 goal mark. [LNB]Rooney said: "I spoke to Sir Bobby last week about the record and we discussed playing and scoring for England. It would be a dream come true to do it and mean so much to me. It would also be fantastic if two Manchester United players were to be one and two in the list. [LNB]"But don't rule out Michael Owen. He still has a chance of the record." [LNB]Rooney's form this season has enabled United to overcome the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored 67 goals in his last two seasons at Old Trafford prior to his £80m summer move to Real Madrid. [LNB]But the 23-year-old insists that he can still raise his game and perform better this season, both for United and England, who face Ukraine in Saturday's World Cup qualifier Dnepropetrovsk [LNB]Rooney said: "I have played better. I think it's because I am scoring more goals, and forwards are always judged on goals, that people are saying I'm in my best form. [LNB]"I honestly believe I can get a lot better. I know I can and I would certainly like to score more goals. I do sometimes think about how far I can go in my career and what I can win. It is about trophies, isn't it? [LNB]"For Manchester United and England. That is what I play for and I do want to get better and better."
