Wayne Rooney could be dropped for Euro 2012 after ban

Fabio Capello is considering whether to take Wayne Rooney to next summer's European Championship after the striker was banned for three matches.[LNB]Capello was as stunned as the Manchester United forward after UEFA described his foul on Montenegro's Miodrag Dzudovic last Friday as 'assault' and denied England their best player for all three group games in Poland and Ukraine. [LNB]The England manager must first see ifthe FA succeed with a possible appeal. But Capello was facing the possibility of trying to navigate the group stage without Rooney, and that has forced him to consider whether it is worth taking him at all. [LNB]Yet, on Friday morning, Rooney appeared to be unfazed the drama unfolding around him, smiling and sharing a jokewith United team-mates at the club's Carrington training ground. [LNB] All smiles: Rooney shrugged off news of the ban, enjoying training with his United team-mates[LNB] Focus: Rooney was put through his paces by his team-mates [LNB]Shocked England officials have yet todecide if they will appeal amid concerns that UEFA could extend the banto a fourth match should they fail. The FA have been told there is a 'small risk' of that and want assurances that the suspension will not beincreased before asking for a review.[LNB]The FA received the decision, made byUEFA's control and disciplinary body, by fax on Thursday afternoon but were still awaiting the detailed reasons behind it.[LNB]Once they have those and they hope to receive the full explanation on Friday they will have three days to appeal. [LNB] Banished: Wayne Rooney was sent off in Montenengro[LNB] In a statement, UEFA said: 'Today's decision was taken in relation to the red card shown to Rooney for assault. The striker will be suspended from his country's next three UEFA matches for which he would be eligible.'[LNB]The FA had hoped a dossier they sent to UEFA's Swiss headquarters would limit the damage. [LNB]It included written submissions from Rooney and Capello, as well as a DVDhighlighting the fact that the player accepted referee Wolfgang Stark's decision after he kicked Dzudovic in the back of the calf and left the pitch immediately.[LNB]But against Rooney was the fact that he had served a one-match ban for two yellow cards earlier in the qualifying campaign and, whatever Stark might have said to members of the English media, his written report must have been more damning. [LNB] Nightmare: Fabio Capello must now plan for life without Rooney[LNB]An FA statement said: 'Further to UEFA's decision to impose a  three-match suspension on Wayne Rooney, theFA await the full reasons and will give full consideration to the decision internally before deciding on any response to UEFA or making any further public comment.'[LNB]Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp believes Rooney should be included in England's squad despite being given 'a painful, painful lesson'.[LNB]'Fabio Capello has to make a decision now,' Redknapp, who has been linked with succeeding Capello after next summer, wrote in The Sun. 'And if I were England manager I wouldn't start Wayne Rooney in any international from now until the Euro 2012 tournament.[LNB]'But we should definitely still take him to the finals. England should be strong enough to get through the group without Rooney and then we'll have him raring to go in the later stages.'[LNB]Redknapp added: 'I was seriously shocked when I heard he'd copped a three-game ban for his kick at Montenegro's Miodrag Dzudovic. It is a painful, painful lesson for Rooney that he cannot do things like that.[LNB]'I have sympathy for him but those are the rules so he must accept it.'[LNB] Take Wayne or leave him?
