Vidic on Makhachkala radar

New Russian superpower Anzhi Makhachkala are set to make an audacious bid to try to sign Nemanja Vidic from Manchester United.

According to reports today, they'll offer £25million for the Serbian international centre-half who's currently out of the United side with a calf injury.Makhachkala stunned many in the football world last week when they signed Samuel Eto'o, making the Cameroon star the highest paid player in the world in the process, with wages of £300,000 a week.

And it seems their billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimou doesn't want to stop splashing the cash just yet, with an experienced defender at the top of his wish list.29-year-old Vidic has been a first choice at Old Trafford since arriving at the club in 2006, but may now face a battle to regain his place thanks to the form of young duo Jonny Evans and Phil Jones.

Sir Alex Ferguson can also call on Rio Ferdinand and Chris Smalling, who played at right-back in Sunday's 8-2 mauling of Arsenal, to play at centre-half.However, it's still unlikely that the Scot would be willing to let Vidic go, especially after losing the experience of players like Gary Neville and Paul Scholes last season.
