Vidic handed two-game ban

The Football Association have confirmed that Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic will serve a two-game ban for his sending off against Liverpool on Saturday. The 27-year-old endured a torrid afternoon, one which ended prematurely when referee Alan Wiley gave him a straight red for wrestling Steven Gerrard to the ground and denying the Reds skipper a certain goalscoring opportunity 14 minutes from time. It was an afternoon to forget for most United players as the visitors ran out 4-1 winners at Old Trafford to reignite their title hopes in spectacular fashion. The Serbia international received an extended ban due to the fact that the red card was his second of the campaign, with the first also coming against Liverpool at Anfield earlier in the season. Vidic will miss the Premier League games away at Fulham on Saturday and at home to Aston Villa two weeks later, currently scheduled for 5th April. Jonny Evans should slot straight in to replace the former Spartak Moscow man after sitting on the bench on Saturday.
