Nemanja Vidic has warned that Manchester United face the toughest of tests against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals, but insists they will be aiming to win the first leg in Germany.

Vidic and fellow centre-half Rio Ferdinand are sure to have a busy night on Tuesday, with Mario Gomez and Miroslav Klose up front for Bayern.

Vidic said: 'Bayern build things up well from the back and they have a few players with real quality on the ball - people like Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.

Case for the defence: Nemanja Vidic is expecting a busy night in Munich

'They have pace and skill and can beat defenders one on one. They also have a few big forwards who are very good in the penalty area - they're old-fashioned goalscoring strikers.'

United have only beaten Bayern once in seven meetings, their memorable success coming in the 1999 final.

But with the away goal a precious commodity Vidic insists United must travel to Munich with the intention of winning the first match.

He told the club's website: 'Like every team, Bayern have strengths and weaknesses. They'll try and play to their strengths, while we'll look to exploit their weaknesses. We're going to Munich looking to win the game.'
