Vidic absent for Asia tour

Nemanja Vidic has been left out of Manchester United's pre-season squad for their tour of Asia. Red Devils officials are yet to explain the 27-year-old's absence although it is believed that the defender is still struggling with the injury which forced him to pull out of Serbia's World Cup qualifier with the Faroe Islands last month. The former Spartak Moscow stopper picked up an ankle problem in Serbia's previous clash with Austria and is thought to still be suffering. United are set to play four games in eight days during the tour, with the squad returning on 27th July - meaning Vidic will have less than two weeks to get match fit before the Community Shield against Chelsea on 9th August. Michael Owen is the only new arrival to have boarded the plane with Antonio Valencia and Gabriel Obertan left out of the 22-man squad. Gary Neville and Wes Brown, who saw their seasons ravaged by injury last term, have also been included. Fellow defender Rafael Da Silva has stayed at home as he too was suffering with an ankle injury towards the back end of last season, although his twin brother Fabio has made the final 22.
