If Roy Keane succeeds in his mission to return Ipswich Town to the Barclays Premier League, he will need to do a lot better than the Tractor Boys of 1995.[LNB]In the season that they finished bottom of the table, Ipswich were embarrassed 9-0 by Manchester United - with Keane scoring the first in the Old Trafford rout.[LNB]You can watch highlights from the hammering here and then enjoy the report from the day by Sportsmail's Bob Cass.[LNB][LNB]Manchester United 9 Ipswich Town 0Bob Cass at Old Trafford[LNB]Manchester United roasted Ipswich unmercifully and recorded their biggest League win in 97 years.[LNB]Britain's costliest striker, £7million Andy Cole, lead the goal burst with five, strike partner Mark Hughes scored a couple, while Roy Keane and Paul Ince chipped in with one each.[LNB]Although Blackburn maintained their three-point advantage with a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa, yesterday's Old Trafford onslaught improved second-placed United's goal difference and that may prove crucial at the end of the season.[LNB] Floodgates open: Keane (centre) is mobbed after his goal[LNB]The heat was on Ipswich from the start, with United terrorising their opponents goal like angry bees. But the East Anglians managed to escape until the 15th minute when United made the inevitable breakthrough. [LNB]Hughes managed to turn his marker before crossing to Keane in space on the edge of the area. The Irishman sized up the situation and promptly slammed the ball into the net off a post.[LNB]Red hot: Andy Cole celebrates with Ryan Giggs[LNB]United went further ahead when Ryan Giggs carved out an opportunityfor Cole. The Welshman broke clear down the left and his cross wasprodded home in style by the marksman. [LNB]Cole's former Newcastle striking colleague, Alex Mathie, went closeto pulling one back but his effort was cleared off the line by DenisIrwin. [LNB]The Ipswich torture continued when Cole scored the third. AgainHughes was involved, thumping a spectacular overhead volley against thebar and there was Cole to convert the rebound. [LNB]The interval brought little respite for tormented Town. They were hit by a burst of four goals in 12 minutes after the restart.[LNB] There was a doubt about the scorer when an Andrei Kanchelskis cross finished in the net after Cole challenged Frank Yallop. [LNB]Then Hughes himself scored a couple. He cracked home a Giggs cross then headed into an empty net after his Wales team-mate had an effort blocked by Craig Forrest. [LNB]In between, the Ipswich goalkeeper saved brilliantly from Cole but all doubts about the United striker's hat-trick were removed when he thundered the ball home after Forrest parried a Brian McClair effort. [LNB] Blitz: Mark Hughes (right) fends off Ipswich's David Linighan[LNB]The bar then denied Hughes soon after and Stuart Slater cleared a Paul Ince header off the line. But this incredible match had more surprises up its sleeve.[LNB]In the 72nd minute Forrest was booked for handling the ball outside the area and while the Ipswich team stood around in a daze, Hughes touched a short free-kick to Ince who chipped it over their heads for goal No 8.[LNB]It was left to Cole to complete a remarkable afternoon with his fifth and United's ninth.[LNB]Man Utd: Peter Schmeichel, Denis Irwin, Steve Bruce, Gary Pallister, Paul Ince, Roy Keane, Andrei Kanchelskis, Ryan Giggs, Brian McClair, Mark Hughes.[LNB]Ipswich: Craig Forrest, Frank Yallop, Neil Thompson, Steve Sedgley, John Wark, David Linighan, Geraint Williams, Steve Palmer, Lee Chapman, Alex Mathie, Stuart Slater    [LNB] Tractor Boy Roy accepts shock return to management at IpswichOdd man in - Keane's box office appeal is just the job at Portman RoadLet's hope Ipswich have got deep pockets - Sportsmail's verdict on the £80m Sunderland transfer record of raspberry RoyAbout a Roy: From United hero to stepping down at Sunderland and a return with Ipswich - The highs and lows of KeaneMANCHESTER UNITED FC
