Valencia goals please Fergie

Sir Alex Ferguson has paid tribute to Antonio Valencia following his second goal in as many games. The Ecuador winger caught the eye of Ferguson during an impressive spell with Wigan and sealed a move to Manchester United over the summer. Ferguson always felt he could score plenty of goals despite a modest record with the Latics and he has been proved right in recent games. Valencia has steadily improved after a quiet start to his Old Trafford career and opened his account in the 2-1 victory over Bolton on Saturday. He then found the target again in midweek as United beat CSKA Moscow 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League. Ferguson has been pleased with Valencia's progress already this season but hopes he can continue to contribute. "Valencia has been a plus point for the last few weeks. He's emerging very well, settling into the club, and his confidence is getting stronger," said Ferguson. "He has tremendous assets for a wide player, but the assets he didn't show at Wigan were his goals, where he would maybe only get three or four a season. "This was his challenge when he signed for us. Two in two games will help him."
