Burnley have signed Manchester United reserve team defender Richard Eckersley. The 20-year-old turned down a new contract at Old Trafford to agree a four-year deal with the Clarets, who will have to pay United compensation because of theplayer's age. Salford-born Eckersley made his Red Devils' debut as a second half substitute in an FA Cup match fourth-round tie against Tottenham on January 24, with a first Barclays Premier League appearance coming three days later against West Brom. The right-back is Burnley's fifth summer signing after the arrivals of Tyrone Mears, Steven Fletcher, David Edgar and Brian Easton.
