Manchester United have entered the race to sign the Burnley striker, stealing a march on rivals who have been looking to land the 22-year-old. Ings has scored 9 goals for Burnley who hope he can save them from the drop in the closing games of the season.

Liverpool have been closely linked with an interest in the striker and tried to use a loophole to guarantee a summer transfer. Liverpool were unable to complete the deal and now the Daily Mail think that United are set to move in and capitalise by opening talks to get a deal done for the end of the season.

The strikers deal expires in the summer but because the player is under 23 Burnley are entitled to a payout of around £5million if he moved to an English club.

The Premier League regulations mean that United could agree a pre-contract deal now to guarantee the player joins them in the summer.

Ings was born in Hythe near Southampton were he joined the youth team before moving to Bournemouth. Ings joined the Bournemouth senior squad in 2009 before moving to Burnley in 2011. The striker has made 124 appearances for Burnley over four seasons and scored 41 goals, 26 of those coming in Burnley’s promotion season from the Championship.

Ings earned 9 caps as an England U21 player and many think he has what it takes to play for the senior team.

The Burnley striker is also linked with moves to Manchester City, Spurs and Real Sociedad.
