United believe they are in the best position to sign the PSV player. The report in the Star reveals that United officials have met with PSV and that Depay has his heart set on a move in the summer.

There is expected to be more to com in the battle to sign Depay but Dutch legend Ronald de Boer believe United will get their man.

Former Ajax and Holland midfielder De Boer said: "I don't want to say which club is more suitable for him, but if he goes to United he knows there is a Dutch coach there in Van Gaal who knows him from the World Cup.

"That is an advantage. He is one of the biggest talents in Europe - he has everything".

It is understood that PSG are also keeping tabs on Depay but the trump card for United could be Louis van Gaal who the winger had a great relationship with through their World Cup experience.
