United extended their lead at the top of the Premier Reserve League to five points after a share of the spoils at Leigh. The Reds are now clear at the top of the table ahead of City but Liverpool are lurking menacingly in third place, six points adrift of United with three games in hand. Rovers opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Canadian youngster Junior Hoilett forced the ball over the line from David Dunn's corner. United had earlier gone close when Oliver Norwood's shot struck the crossbar but they had better luck on the stroke of half-time when Ritchie de Laet hooked home Mame Biram Diouf's right-wing cross. Hoilett almost gave the home side the lead early in the second-half but United keeper Ben Amos did well to push the shot onto the bar. At the other end, William Keane struck the post after beating the Rovers' defence to Oliver Norwood's pass into the middle. UNITED: Amos, R Brown, Gill, C Evans, De Laet, Wootton, Stewart (W Keane 60), Possebon, Diouf, Norwood, Obertan (Brandy 60). Not used: Moffatt, Zieler, Ajose. What do you think? Have your say.
