United ready to make summer signing No.2 after target club sign defensive replacement

Manchester United are set to continue their summer spending after being given the green light to sign Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne after Ronald Koeman's side moved for Sporting Lisbon right-back Cedric Soares.

The Red Devils have been linked with a move for England international Nathaniel Clyne for a number of months, and it now appears that Southampton are preparing for life without the 23-year-old defender as they look to sign his replacement in Soares.

Clyne has one year left on his current deal at Southampton and looks no closer to signing a new deal with the club, despite changing agents in May – a move that was supposed to help negotiations between player and club.

United's Premier League rivals Liverpool have also shown interest in Clyne but their £10million offer was instantly rejected by Saints.

Louis van Gaal's side had been linked with a move for Barcelona's Dani Alves, however that avenue has since closed with the Brazilian signing a new deal with the Champions League winners. But the Express claim the reported £3.6million signing of Soares will be the catalyst that sees Clyne move on Southampton.
