United on red alert as Valencia hint at sale of Spanish stars Villa and Silva

Manchester United are closing in on top targets David Villa and David Silva - as Valencia say they are finally willing to cave in and sell.[LNB]Sir Alex Ferguson has admired the Spanish duo for some time but put off making a move this summer as his valuation fell short of Valencia's asking price.[LNB] Dynamic duo: David Silva (left) and David Villa could now be on their way out of Valencia[LNB]The United manager first took notice of Villa, 27, after his stellar showing in Euro 2008, when he finished with the golden boot. And Villa's team-mate Silva, 23, is seen as the man to add some flair to United's midfield.[LNB]United representatives met Valencia over the summer but were told that despite the La Liga club's financial woes, Silva and Villa would not be sold. Ferguson also hoped Nani could live up to his potential but the Portuguese has failed to deliver so far this season.[LNB]Valencia remain in dire need of funds and, with a large chunk of Cristiano Ronaldo's £80million transfer fee yet to be spent, United are confident of landing one - if not both - of Valencia's prized assets.[LNB]'The club made a great effort to keep our players this summer but our economic situation remains very serious,' Valencia director Fernando Gomez said on Spanish TV.[LNB]'It was a success to keep them, but there comes a point when you can't stand it anymore.
