United line up alternative Di Maria replacement as Pedro transfer drags on

Manchester United have made moves to sign Paris Saint-Germain's pacey winger Ezequiel Lavezzi as an alternative to Barcelona's Pedro, should the Spaniards proposed switch to Old Trafford collapse.

United and PSG have had dialogue already this season, with the Manchester club selling Angel Di Maria to the Ligue 1 champions for £44.1million last week. Super Deporte suggest that this could pave the way for a potential transfer to Manchester for Lavezzi.

Former Napoli star Lavezzi is open to the idea of a Premier League switch, with the 30-year-old looking for first team football. And with Louis van Gaal looking to add pace and creativity to his side, a place in the starting XI is what he'd likely get at United.

However, Pedro remains the Red Devils first choice to fill the void left by Di Maria. Barcelona have made it clear they want Pedro to stay in Catalonia, more so with Neymar set to miss the start of the season after contracting mumps.
