Manchester United have confirmed that goalkeeper Ben Foster has undergone thumb surgery and will be out for two months. The England international has again seen his season limited by injury and he will now miss United's final two games of the campaign. Edwin van der Sar will be starting the UEFA Champions League final in Rome next week, but Foster would have hoped to be on the bench. But Sir Alex Ferguson has now said that Foster needs surgery on a ruptured ligament in his right thumb so will miss the European showpiece, as well as England's internationals this summer. "It is a big blow for Ben as not only will he miss the Champions League final but also England's summer internationals," Ferguson told United's official website. "Ben has tried to continue the season with this injury but it got so critical that an operation was the only way forward. "It is disappointing for him but the important thing was to get this operation done."
