United goalkeeper Van der Sar ready to put pen to paper on 12-month deal

Veteran goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar looks set to sign a new one-year contractwith Manchester United. [LNB]The 39-year-old Dutchman has been in talks with manager Sir Alex Ferguson overhis future and now appears ready to commit to a 12-month extension. [LNB]Quoted in the News of the World, he said:  'I would like to keep on playing soI have decided to sign another contract. [LNB] New deal: Edwin van der Sar [LNB]'The club want me to stay and I'm happy here. My fitness is good and I feel Ican carry on playing for United.' [LNB]Van der Sar returned to the Red Devils' first team last month a spell outthrough injury and compassionate leave following his wife's suspected brainhaemorrhage.[LNB]'It's been a hard time for all the family and when something like this happensit's a tough situation,' he said.[LNB]'Luckily I was back in Holland when it happened because I was injured and itmeant that I could be with her in hospital.
