Banned: Rio Ferdinand[LNB]Manchester United will run the risk of Rio Ferdinand missing the Carling Cup final by appealing against his four-match ban.[LNB]The England central-defender was originally handed a three-match ban by the FA after video footage showed him lashing out at Hull City's Craig Fagan during United's 4-0 win at Old Trafford last month.[LNB]The ban was then extended by a further game last week after the Premier League champions made what Soho Square officials branded a 'frivolous appeal'.[LNB]That makes United's latest appeal risky, given that the FA could extend the ban by a further game which would rule Ferdinand out the Wembley final against Aston Villa on February 28.[LNB]The 31-year-old centre-back missed United's 3-1 victory over Arsenal yesterday and will also be absent for their match against Portsmouth on Saturday and the visit to Villa next Wednesday.[LNB]
