Twitter hate mail forces Manchester United's Darron Gibson off the network

Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson became the latest player to join Twitter - only to close his account two hours later after abuse from his club's own fans. [LNB]Gibson's arrival on Twitter was trumpeted by his team-mate Rio Ferdinand soon after the United squad touched down in Germany for the Champions League semi-final against Schalke 04.[LNB] Stuck in the middle: Darron Gibson was hit with a volley of abuse on Twitter[LNB] But the Irish international's 'DGibbo28' account had disappeared by mid-afternoon after United fans flooded it with abuse aimed at a player who is not universally popular among supporters of the Barclays Premier League leaders. [LNB]The exact reason for Gibson's decision to retreat from the social networking site was not clear last night though the crude tweet messages included urging him to 'get out of our club' and saying that he was 'an awful footballer'.
