Transfer Round Up 12 June - Manchester United target off to Monaco?

12 June 2013 09:06

We start with the massive £85m bid for Cristiano Ronaldo that Monaco are putting together. Monaco, now owed by Russian Billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, has already spent over £100m for other players, Radamel Falcao being the biggest name so far. Monaco definitely has the money, but it is hard to see Ronaldo going there with his boyhood attachment to Real Madrid and his love for Manchester United. If this happens it would be the shock move of the year if not the decade. This story sounds just too good to be true but with the amount of cash being spent year after year, it does have a tendency to make people do crazy things.

Next on the list is Tottenham manager Andre-Villas-Boas and the rumors circulating about a move to Paris Saint-Germain. The Mirror is reporting that PSG are looking to lure AVB away from Spurs with a four year, £40m bid. PSG boss Carlos Ancelotti is said to be leaving PSG to take the job that Jose Mourinho vacated at Real Madrid, who now has the job at Chelsea; a job that both Ancelotti and AVB once held.

This move is not only about a manager but also about the future of one Gareth Bale. AVB and Bale are close and this relationship is one of the main reasons that Bale was looking to stay at Spurs. If AVB heads off to greener pastures, then expect Bale to follow suit. Who knows, with the money PSG have, maybe AVB brings Bale along. Not sure if Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy will let AVB go without a huge fight so let’s wait and see if this story has any truth to it.

It finally looks like Darren Bent might find a home where he will be loved. Alan Pardew is said to be interested in Bent to bolster his front line. Bent, who has not been show much love at Aston Villa and spend a lot of quality time on the substitutes bench is looking to get back to starting elsewhere. The 29-year-old would more and likely have to take a pay cut in order to make such a move but if Bent wants to get his career on track, he will have to do it. There is also that little matter of the World Cup quickly approaching and Roy Hodgson will not be choosing a player for his team that can’t start on his club team.

We close with a few “Quick Hits”. Norwich manager Chris Hughton is looking to lure PSV Eindhoven forward Ola Toivonen to Carrow Road this summer. Toivonen has scored 59 goals in 125 appearances since moving to the Dutch League. The 26-year-old is also said to be a target for Fulham.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is not wasting anytime. It is said he is chasing after one of his former players, Antolin Alcaraz, from Wigan. It is reported that the contract should be finalized by the end of this week. Though he has spent much time hurt while with the Latics, Martinez has nothing to lose by acquiring him on a free transfer.

And finally, Wesley Sneijder looks to be on the move again. Chelsea and Spurs, both are on alert since Turkish side Galatasaray are willing to sell the 29-year-old Dutch international. Sneijder played for Mourinho while at Inter Milan which gives Chelsea the inside track. He is said to be valued at about £13m.
