Paul Scholes has started every Premier League game for Manchester United this season, but the 35-year-old can't go on forever and Sir Alex Ferguson is actively seeking a replacement.

The latest name in the frame is German powerhouse Bastian Schweinsteiger. (caughtoffside.com)

The swashbuckling Bayern Munich midfielder starred at the World Cup this summer, and the 26-year-old is among the most highly-rated midfielders in the game.

Ferguson is said to be a big admirer of Schweinsteiger, and United could tempt Munich to sell in the January window if they come in with an appropriate bid.

On the subject of United midfielders, Paul Ince is back in the headlines after being linked to the vacant manager's job at Notts County.

County sacked Craig Short last week after a poor start to the League One season, and Ince has reportedly said he's very keen on the job. (Daily Mirror)

The 43-year-old former England international has been out of football since resigning from his second spell at MK Dons last year.
