Manchester United are said to be plotting a raid for Lyon's Brazilian wide man Michel Bastos.

According to caughtoffside.com, Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to bring a set-piece specialist to Old Trafford in the January window - and Bastos fits the bill perfectly.

The 27-year-old is valued at around £16 million, and there is also the suggestion Patrice Evra could move in the other direction as part of the deal.

Bastos helped Lyon to the semi-finals of the Champions League last season, but Lyon are struggling in this campaign and he may be keen on an exit.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho is pleading with Zinedine Zidane to make himself more available for coaching.

The World Cup winner and former Galatico is currently serving as an adviser to Madrid president Florentino Perez, but Mourinho would rather his vast experience was used elsewhere.

"I would like him to have more time with me and less with the president," Mourinho said.

"I don't think he wants to become a coach but I would still like to have him with me."
