Sir Alex Ferguson is intent on strengthening his squad this summer with two of the Premier League's most highly-rated midfielders in his sights.

The Manchester United boss is hopeful of signing Everton youngster Jack Rodwell, who could cost up to £20 million. The England U21 star can play in midfield and central defence and has been widely tipped as a star of the future.

Fergie is also eyeing a move for the more experienced Luka Modric, who has been superb in Tottenham's astounding rise to the Champions League. Harry Redknapp is unlikely to sell one his most important players but could be forced into accepting a £35m bid.

Despite never confirming a bid, it is believed that Chelsea made a serious move for Santos' Brazilain prodigy Neymar last summer.

The Blues failed in their attempts to bring the striker to Stamford Bridge but look certain to renew their efforts when the transfer window reopens in June.

Roman Abramovich will sanction a massive £30m bid for the highly-rated youngster, which could spell the end for either Didier Drogba or Nicolas Anelka.

Michael Owen will leave Manchester United this summer with Everton, Aston Villa and Sunderland all chasing his signature.

Newcastle are looking to bring in West Ham's Carlton Cole as a replacement for Andy Carroll.

Atletico Madrid could bid for Manchester City's David Silva amid rumours that the Spanish playmaker is homesick.

Barcelona are lining up a £38m bid for Cesc Fabregas this summer.
