Despite calls for him to postpone his retirement after a stunning performance against Arsenal in the FA Cup on Saturday evening, Edwin van der Sar has confirmed that he still intends to end his career at the end of this season.

It is widely expected that Sir Alex Ferguson will enter the transfer market for a new goalkeeper to replace the former Dutch international with a number of names reportedly on the Scotsman's wishlist.

One name which keeps reappearing is David De Gea. The 20-year-old Spaniard currently plays for Atletico Madrid and is tipped to be a star of the future by many within the game. Fergie is rumoured to be lining up a £15 million bid for the youngster.

Often linked with a move to Arsenal over the past year, Gary Cahill now looks like he could be on his way to the Gunners' local rivals Tottenham when the window reopens.

Harry Redknapp is keen to sign a new central defender with Jonathan Woodgate and Ledley King still struggling to overcome long-term injury problems and the former West Ham boss sees Cahill as the ideal addition to his squad.

The ex-Aston Villa man has been the subject of interest from a number of Premier League clubs but a move to White Hart Lane now looks most likely with the Trotters desperate to cash-in on their prized asset. He could cost up to £20m.

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is considering a move for his former player and AC Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini on a free transfer this summer.

Newcastle midfielder Danny Guthrie could move to Nottingham Forest on a short-term loan deal.

Sunderland will sign Danny Welbeck on another season-long loan in June.
