Stockport defender Josh Thompson has confirmed he had a trial at Manchester United last season. As revealed by skysports.com in May United invited Thompson for a trial prior to their UEFA Champions League final clash with Barcelona. The 18-year-old defender is one of the most highly-rated players in the Football League and has also been the subject of interest from Peterborough. Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson is hoping to beat his father Sir Alex to the signing of Thompson, but the youngster is not paying any attention to the speculation and is focused on life at Edgeley Park. "I'm aware of what I see in the papers but I just want to get here, go through pre-season and work as hard as I can and get fit, concentrate on my football and just let everything else do what it wants to do," Thompson told the club's official website. Thompson admitted the chance to train with Premier League champions United was one of the best experiences of his life. "It was amazing," added Thompson. "You ask anyone my age and they dream to go and train with the best players in the world and to train with them for two days was great. It was one of the best experiences in football you could get."
