The new Ronaldo: Valencia in line to replace sulky United star

12 May 2009 03:14
The hissy fit at Sir Alex Ferguson has raised suspicions that he could be plotting another attempt to leave Manchester United this summer, so perhaps it is appropriate that Wednesday night Cristiano Ronaldo will come face to face with the man earmarked to replace him. A £20million deal has already been agreed in principle for Wigan's Antonio Valencia to join United should Ronaldo be granted his wish to play in Spain with Real Madrid. Equally, Valencia could end up on the right wing at the Bernabeu and Real's technical director Miguel Angel Portugal will be an interested observer at the JJB Stadium on Wednesday to watch their two targets in the Barclays Premier League. That is, of course, assuming Ferguson chooses not to punish Ronaldo's impudence by dropping him to the bench where he sat broodingfor more than half an hour of Sunday's Manchester derby after taking spectacular offence to being substituted.
