Team of the week 13/12/11

13 December 2011 14:24
After a full fixture of Barclays Premier League games this weekend, it is now time to find out who performed the best and made it into the football.co.uk team of the week!

Amongst the fixtures this weekend Arsenal were at home to Everton, Liverpool faced QPR and Chelsea and Manchester City met each other in the Monday evening fixture.

Position : Goalkeeper
Michel Vorm (Swansea)
Another superb save from the Dutch International keeper, this time to keep out Clint Dempsey's spot kick, was the turning point in the game. A bargain signing by Brendan Rodgers who may face some interest from other clubs in the not to distant future for his keeper.

Position: Defender
Daniel Agger (Liverpool)
The Danish defender is doing well for Liverpool at the moment and is keeping cult hero Jamie Carragher out of the team. His solid display against Queens Park Rangers didn't allow the opposition a sniff.

Position: Defender
Gary Caldwell (Wigan Athletic)
The reliable Scottish centre back was in position to help his side secure an excellent three points away at West Brom. With Caldwell organising the back four, things may be on the up for Roberto Martinez' side.

Position: Defender
Phil Jones (Manchester United)
The young defender seems to get better each week. His enthusiasm and willingness to play out of position is admirable and he is doing all he can to assure a place in Fabio Capello's Euro 2012 squad for next summer.

Nani image

Position: Midfielder

Nani (Manchester United)
Manchester United came back with a vengeance following their exit from the Champions League on Wednesday. Nani produced a brilliant performance against Wolves and ensured that United overcame their midweek disappointment with style.

Position: Midfielder
Marc Albrighton (Aston Villa)
Aston Villa bounced back to form with three points at the Reebok Stadium. It was young midfielder Marc Albrighton who put Alex McLeish's side in the lead after 33 minutes and on their way to victory. It was Albrighton's 8th career goal for Villa.

Position: Midfielder
Luka Modric (Tottenham)
It may have been a disappointing result for Spurs away at Stoke, but they can at least be encouraged by their second half performance that brought them back into the game. Croatian play maker Luka Modric was responsible for creating a number of chances for his side and was a continuous threat to Stoke.

Position: Midfielder
Matthew Etherington (Stoke City)
Etherington came back to haunt his old club on Sunday with two goals against Tottenham. His brace before half time was enough to ensure Stoke picked up the win, despite a second half onslaught from Spurs.

Position: Forward
Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea)
Manchester City saw their unbeaten start to the season come to an end on Monday night. Former City player Daniel Sturridge used his pace to cause all kinds of problems for his former employers throughout the game. He may not have scored but his valuable contribution was enough to pick up a vital win for Chelsea.

Position: Forward
Robin Van Persie (Arsenal)
Van Persie is once again back in Team of the Week following Arsenal's 1-0 win over Everton on Saturday. His overall contribution may not have been his best this season but his match winning goal will surely be one of the contenders for goal the season. His form may also earn his the award of PFA player of the year as well.

Position: Forward
Grant Holt (Norwich City)
Holt is a constant threat to opposition defenders with his strength and presence in the air. He was in typical form on Saturday against Newcastle, tearing apart the Geordie's defence and scoring twice in a 4-2 win for the Canaries.
