Surge for Sergio! United try to snatch star Canales from under Real's noses

Manchester United are still interested in Racing Santander's Sergio Canales, 18, who has yet to sign for Real Madrid. [LNB]Canales is out of contract in the summer but is said to have verballyagreed to re-sign for Racing before being sold on for a lucrative fee.[LNB]His club want up to £10million, but are expected to accept less ifthe player is loaned back to them.[LNB] Hot prospect: Canales (right)[LNB]Manchester City made a concerted effort last month to tempt the Spain Under 19 international to Eastlands, with rounds of talks in England with his father Gelo before meetings in Santander.[LNB]Ready to pounce: Ferguson[LNB]Arsenal and Chelsea also talked to Canales' father, who acts as the player's agent, though were put off the scent after being told that the teenager would sign for Madrid.[LNB]However, days after the supposed agreement, Canales has signed no contract with the Bernabeu giants and it is understood that a fee has not even been agreed.
