An Edwards cross deflects off O'Shea and hits the post as United scramble away for a corner. The kick falls to the edge of the box where Teemu Tainio blasts it straight into Scholes' gentleman's area. However, the ball drifts wide of the post and Foster had it covered.[LNB]37 After some pinball stuff on the edge of the United box, Cisse fires at goal with his right foot. Foster tips over for a corner. United half clear and Sunderland win a free-kick on the edge of the box as Rooney is booked for handball. Great chance.[LNB]34 Scholes is again allowed to ghost into the Sunderland area, but he cannot quite meet Park's cross. The Black Cats move to the other end of the field and Jones heads straight at Foster.[LNB]33 This time it is Jones' chance to poke just wide. Sunderland are threatening. This is a good spell for the Black Cats.[LNB]13 After a shaky start, Sunderland have settled. But Rooney wastes a good chance for United when his cross drifts behind the goal. This promises to be a lively affair.[LNB] Kick-off is rapidly approaching and the teams are preparing themselves in the tunnel before making their way onto the pitch as classical, inspirational music booms around the stadium. Atmospheric.[LNB] Liverpool have thumped Blackburn 4-0 to return to the top of the table, so the pressure is on United to win. Ferguson will also have his fingers crossed after hitting back at Liverpool counterpart Rafa Benitez, suggesting the Spaniard is rattled in the title race. United, though, have won only once in their last four games in all competitions. They need a performance this afternoon. But Sunderland are fighting for survival and have concerns at the other end of the division.[LNB] Despite a warning from a colleague, whose blushes I will spare by ensuring he remains anonymous after a bit of a tummy bug upon his last visit to the North East, I have braved the food in the Sunderland media suite and it received the double thumbs up. The pitch-side press box, however, is not made to measure for those over six foot. Hopefully the game will offer plenty of distraction from any possible insetting cramp.[LNB] The teams are warming up on the pitch on a sunny afternoon on Wearside.
