[LNB]Bolton midfielder Stuart Holden was in hospital on Saturday night for treatment on the knee injury that looks certain to keep him out of the club's FA Cup semi-final against Stoke City on April 17. [LNB]Holden's team-mates were horrified by the gaping wound in the American international's knee after he was caught by a high tackle from Jonny Evans that led to a straight red card for the Manchester United defender. [LNB]Bolton are now crossing their fingers that the wound, caused by Evans' studs as the players both slid in for the ball, is superficial and he has not suffered ligament damage or a break. [LNB]Distressed Wanderers manager Owen Coyle said: 'The knee was cut open and that is what frightened one or two players.[LNB] Red mist: Evans is sent off for a tackle on Holden[LNB] 'He has been taken to hospital to be assessed. We are hoping it is just a very bad cut and not ligament damage or a break that would keep him out for a considerable length of time. 'Our thoughts are with him tomake sure he is OK.' [LNB]Holden has endured horrific luck with injuries before. He sustained afractured eye socket after being attacked in the street when he played for Sunderland and suffered a broken leg when playing for the USA against Holland last year. [LNB]United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and Coyle both absolved Evans of deliberately causing injury to the Bolton midfielder. [LNB] Concern: Holden is stretchered off[LNB]Ferguson said: 'Everyone knows Jonny is not a malicious player. 'I think the red card was probably given because of the injury. You can't have any real complaints, it was unfortunate, maybe.'[LNB] Coyle added: 'In real time, it looked as though two players were committed going for the ball. There didn't seem any malice.'[LNB] Manchester United 1 Bolton 0: Berbatov back with a bang to rescue 10-man RedsMoyes insists Everton have not done a deal with Man United for Rodwell[LNB] [LNB]  Explore more:People: Alex Ferguson, Owen Coyle Places: The Netherlands
