Stoke City - The Jolly Green Giants

19 October 2012 18:04
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been taking the Mick out of Saturday's opponents Stoke City by Labelling them the 'Jolly Green Giants.'

Fergie was of course referring to the height of the Stoke side, making them the ideal club for the long ball game mastered by Wimbledon in the early 80's.

Long throws, corners and free kicks are all major parts of Stoke's game, they love nothing more than hoofing the ball into the box and hoping from there on in.

"The jolly green giants are coming to play against us tomorrow," said Ferguson.

"Michael [Owen] is not allowed to play unless he brings a ladder. They are the biggest team in Europe.

"You can get yourself all in a fangle about that because they are a handful at set-piece play and with their long throw-ins. But you can't make a terror for yourself.

Hopefully we can play our game and get the result we want."
