Spurs v Man Utd live!

12 September 2009 17:21
It's all over at White Hart Lane. Man United go second in the Premier League as they end Spurs' unbeaten start to the season. 90+3 The match has petered out as a contest. It's all United even though they are a man down. 90+2 Spurs continue to toil - there's just no way through the red wall. 90+1 Nani is dispossessed but Spurs can't clear and Rooney almost adds a fourth. However, his shot is blocked by a defender. 90 The match has moved into added time - there will be four minutes for Spurs to try and salvage a point here. But even that seems unlikely for Redknapp's side. 89 Defoe and Crouch are still working hard albeit deep in their own half with United well in control. 88 Huddlestone eventually frees Lennon down the left. The winger's cross floats towards the back post. Crouch gets his head to it but the ball drifted too far from the goal-posts and it's a United goal-kick. 87 Spurs just can't get it together as Assou-Ekotto concedes a throw-in. 86 The rebound falls to Fletcher who returns the favour and passes to Rooney in the left channel. But Cudicini saves the second effort from Rooney before Spurs can break 85 Ferguson's men continue to pile the pressure on Spurs. Rooney sets up Fletcher and his stinging effort is saved by Cudicini. 84 United attack via Evra and his delivery from the left almost finds Rooney who still seems full of energy. 83 Nani gets his first touch as United look to keep the ball and frustrate the home team. 82 Spurs do summon an attack but Huddlestone's placed effort from outside the area lacks the punch needed to trouble Foster. 81 Anderson, who has been outstanding today, makes way for Nani. 80 Time is running our for Redknapp's charges and they seem bereft of ideas at this late stage of the match. 79 Does that spell the end of Spurs' unbeaten record this season? 78 GOAL ROONEY!!! Anderson counters down the right channel and threads a pass through for Rooney. The England star cuts inside and goes past Hutton before steering the ball past Cudicini to give United a two-goal cushion.. 77 Crouch wins a free-kick in aerial combat with Vidic - they have been involved in an epic battle today. gbenga X-adebija is confident and says: 'Trust me, my 2-2 prediction will surely come to pass, hee, hee' 75 Crouch is unhappy as he thought he was fouled by O'Shea in the box but the free-kick goes United's way. 74 Spurs have lacked penetration in the last 15 minutes. Indeed, ten-man United have dominated. 73 Jenas goes into the book for a clumsy tackle on Giggs. 72 Niko Kranjcar makes his Spurs debut - Keane makes way. 71 Rooney and Giggs combine well down the left before the ball is passed to Evra who hits the side netting with a rasping shot. 70 The White Hart Lane faithful are getting anxious as they jeer United every time they are in possession. 69 Redknapp withdraws Corluka and throws on Alan Hutton in the Croation's stead. Even with the extra man Spurs are 9/1 to win this match according to Sky Bet. 68 Then Giggs over-hits a cross and Spurs have a chance to build from the back. 67 Carrick wins the ball and a lightning counter from Rooney almost results in the third for the Red Devils. His shot flies through Corluka's legs and Cudicini makes another fine save. 66 Corluka volleys a cross into the box but no one is able to get on the end of it. 65 The visitors respond by knocking the ball about in midfield and Anderson slides a pass through for Rooney who is left flat footed. 64 Crouch is penalised for a high boot in the box following a cross from Lennon. 63 Everyone is back for United as Spurs probe forward. 62 Michael Carrick, another former Spurs man, replaces Berbatov. 61 There is some activity on the United bench as Ferguson ponders a reshuffle following the red card. 60 The linesman makes a poor decision by calling Rooney offside. The forward had run onto Berbatov's fantastic diagonal ball and had a clear run on goal. 59 The match is turned on its head as Scholes receives his marching orders after collecting a second yellow card. It was a silly challenge on Huddlestone that resulted in the caution. Can Spurs capitalise on their numerical advantage? 58 Redknapp might be pondering some changes at this juncture as his side continue to chase the game. 57 Spurs are persisting with the long-ball strategy. It's not as effective now as it was in the first half as Vidic and Ferdinand have started dominating the aerial battle. 56 Crouch gets his head to the corner and rattles the crossbar as Spurs come close to scoring an equaliser. 55 Vidic concedes a throw-in. Keane finds Defoe but is dispossessed. Jenas wins the ball off Scholes and unleashes a great effort goalwards. Foster, at full stretch, palms the ball out for a corner. Great save. 54 The pace is quite pedestrian compared to the first half and it is quite scrappy. That could change at any moment though. 53 Giggs weaves his way into the area but the covering defence manages to get the ball off him. 52 Scholes gets some of his own medicine as King flies into the tackle. Another booking; King this time. 51 Spurs are stroking the ball about with some confidence. But Scholes has seen enough and he clatters into Defoe to concede a free-kick. The midfielder goes into the ref's book too. 50 The Londoners have started the half well as they seek their second of the match. 49 'Pleased how the match is going so far, although I am worried about conceding an early goal and that for the 2nd game in a row we have had to fight back from a goal down. Im gonna go for a 3-1 or 4-2 result to United,' says Sam, a United Fan, from Newport 48 Keane is set up by Jenas in the box. The substitute picked up an Assau-Ekotto cross but the Irishman wastes a great chance to pull level as his shot has far too much elevation and flies over the crossbar. 47 Scholes, Berbatov and Giggs all get early touches. The latter knocks in a weak cross and United have to build again. 46 Jermaine Jenas comes on for Palacios as Redknapp makes his first change and the champions kick off the second half. It's half-time at White Hart Lane. Top-of-the-table Tottenham have squandered an early lead, but United dominated the last 20-odd minutes of the half and probably deserve their lead. We're in for a cracking second half, stay with us. 45+2 Crouch and Vidic are still sharing some choice words after their altercation. 45+1 Spurs waste the free-kick and Anderson counters. His pass out wide to Giggs is short and Corluka is able to win the ball. 45 We're into added time at the Lane and Vidic is booked for a heavy tackle on Crouch that up-ends the striker in the middle of the park. 44 Berbatov wins a corner deep in Spurs territory as the champions press for a third goal before the interval. 43 Spurs push forward until Rooney steals the ball and leads the charge forward. Spurs regroup and track back to dispossess the England international. 42 Harry Redknapp doesn't look happy in the Spurs dug-out. 41 GOAL ANDERSON!!! Assou-Ekotto concedes a corner. The ball is played to Scholes who shoots from range. Crouch sticks a foot out to clear the danger but it comes to Anderson and the Brazilian thumps the ball into the back of the net from the edge of the area. 40 Huddlestone and Keane combine beautifully down the left. They then switch the play to the right before Evra gains possession and clears. 39 'Im a spurs fan, im hopeing that the lads do well and beat united 2-1 / or 3-2.' says Daniel from Kensington 38 Cudicini collects a through ball with Rooney bearing down on him. 37 Spurs are now 3/1 to win according to Sky Bet. 36 I spoke too soon. Tempers flare after Fletcher demurs the ref's decision to penalise him for a tackle on Assou-Ekotto. 35 It's been a tremendous match so far and it has entered a slight lull as the teams regroup. 34 The ensuing corner is almost directed goalwards by Crouch but in the end it flies wide of the upright. Defoe then tries to curl the ball past Foster. The goalkeeper covers the effort with ease, however. 33 Lennon's dribble cuts through the United defence. He goes down under Nemanja Vidic's challenge and is booked for diving. The winger wins a corner though. 32 Anderson's defence-splitting through pass is chased by Rooney who is called offside. 31 Berbatov misses two fantastic chances to score against his old club. Evra's marauding run causes the damage but the striker's first shot is saved by Cudicini. Scholes knocks the rebound back to the Bulgarian but he can't steer the ball on target much to the delight of the Spurs faithful. 29 At the other end Crouch lays the ball off for Tom Huddlestone. The midfielder takes a pop at goal but it is off target. 28 Rooney then has a half chance at the far post, but it comes to nought. 27 Berbatov comes close to giving the visitors the lead. Anderson sprays the ball to the striker on the edge of the area. He pulls the ball back and fires away his shot with his left-foot forcing Cudicini into another save. 26 So we're all square here but United are starting to look menacing as they go forward. 24 GOAL GIGGS!!! Both Giggs and Scholes hover over the ball at the free-kick. The Welshman eventually steps up and curls his effort over the wall and past Cudicini to level matters at the Lane. 23 Palacios is cautioned for a two-footed tackle on Berbatov and United have a free-kick around 20 yards from Cudicini's goal. 22 Palacios' give and go with Crouch allows the striker to overlap down the right. His cross cuts across the face of goal but spins just out of Defoe's reach. Replays show he was offside. 21 Evra's nifty chip frees space for Ryan Giggs. The veteran crosses and Fletcher just can't reach it at the far post. 20 'I am a Chelsea fan, so am praying for a 2- 2 draw!!' says gbenga X-adebija 19 Berbatov pilfers the ball from Assou-Ekotto and the cross almost finds Rooney. A let off for Spurs there. 18 Robbie Keane goes down under a heavy challenge from Anderson. 16 Evra and Vedran Corluka get into a little tussle and the ref steps in before it escalates. United's frustration starts to show. 15 Palacios fouls Berbatov around 35 metres from goal. The ensuing free-kick is flicked on by the Bulgarian striker and Cudicini saves the effort. 14 A fine touch from Crouch takes the ball past Scholes and Anderson and the striker shoots. Ben Foster gets his body behind the ball and saves comfortably though. 13 Defoe drifts into the wide right channel as Spurs look to exploit the space behind Evra but without any luck. 12 Stu from Barking says: 'Result depends on which one of the licenced Man Utd fans....sorry I mean Referees are in charge today.I fancy Spurs to shade it 2-1 again depending on referees' 11 Patrice Evra makes a trademark run down the left. However, the French star has to go back as Spurs defenders surround him. 10 Crouch wins another aerial ball and Lennon attacks down the right. The England winger's cross is a good one but Rio Ferdinand hacks the ball to safety with Defoe lurking in the box. 9 Berbatov and Scholes play some neat triangles in the middle third but Palacios, who seems to be everywhere, intercepts and clears the danger. 8 Neither side has been able to control matters in midfield yet. 7 Wayne Rooney strays offside and once again Spurs bang the ball forward. The pass finds Crouch and he fires off a long-range shot that flies high and wide. 6 Aaron Lennon is forced back after some excellent pressing from the United midfield. 5 Spurs are still content to go route one and why not, it's been effective thus far. 4 Dimitar Berbatov gets a touch and a few boos ring out at the Lane. 3 Then Darren Fletcher forces Cudicini into a fine save at the near post. A frantic opening here in London. 2 United try hit back immediately but Paul Scholes shoots wide of Carlo Cudicini's goal. 1 DEFOE!!! In the opening exchanges Spurs immediately go long for Peter Crouch and win a couple of throw-ins. The big man causes havoc in the area from a Wilson Palacios' cross. The ball drops to Jermain Defoe's and he scores with a sensational overhead kick! 1 Tottenham get the match underway at White Hart Lane. The home team have not beaten Sir Alex Ferguson's men in the league since 2001 - can they change that today? Matt Egan from Norwich says: 'I am a Spurs fan and am a bit worried that it seems Harry has gone with a 4-3-3 formation with three strikers. I'm surprised not to see Kranjcar make his debut for the club to give us that attacking edge in midfield. Looking forward to the clash between Fletcher and Palacios in midfield. As far as scoreline goes, I think Bassong and King will have a solid game and Spurs will edge 2-1, Lennon and Crouch for Spurs, Rooney for Man U. Ryan Chan from Singapore has jumped right in and forwarded his prediction: 'I'm a Barcelona fan. I think Man Utd are gonna take this 2-1, with Rooney and Berbatov, and Lennon on the score sheet.' United are the favourites to win this clash at 5/4 while Sky's bookies reckon Wayne Rooney is the best bet to open the scoring at 5/1. Welcome to our live coverage of Tottenham v Man United.
