Cristiano Ronaldo claims he had the full support of Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson following his world record £80m transfer to Real Madrid. Ferguson, who claimed he would not sell Real ' a virus' when Real tried to lure the Portuguese star to the Bernabeu last summer, finally sanctioned the move after the  winger made it clear he wanted to move to the Spanish giants. But Ronaldo says the United manager understood his reasons for leaving Old Trafford as it had been a boyhood dream for him to play for Real. And now he is on his way to Real, the 24-year-old says he cannot wait to play with the likes of Kaka, Raul and Guti. Speaking from his holiday in Algrave, Ronaldo said: 'I want to take this opportunity to tell the fans of Manchester United that the important people at the club understood my reasons and that it was a mutual agreement because everyone understood my will to leave. 'Real Madrid was always a club where I wanted to play. I want to start very strongly to play my football and thank Real Madrid for everything they did for me. It will be great to play with Kaka.
