Sir Alex Ferguson denies Manchester United will make a move for Sol Campbell

Ferguson, who will welcome back fit-again defender Nemanja Vidic for Saturday's Old Trafford clash with Aston Villa, had been linked with a surprise swoop for Campbell, who has been without a club since walking out on League Two outfit Notts County earlier this season. [LNB]With United in the midst of a defensive injury crisis, that saw them face Wolfsburg on Tuesday without nine first-team defenders, 35-year-old had been suggested as a possible signing. [LNB]Ferguson said: "I don't know where this came from but it is all wrong. [LNB]'Sol Campbell was a great player, but he is not a player we are thinking about getting to come to United. [LNB]"Jonny Evans could be back in 10 days and John O'Shea will be with us in January. [LNB]"We are having a hard time with centre-backs at this moment in time, but I am sure that, by January, most of them will be back." [LNB]The link to Campbell raised speculation that United's £699m debt had begun to severely affect the club's spending power. [LNB]United's owners, the Glazer family, are reportedly looking to refinance the debt and, with the £80m banked from the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer still unspent, supporters have grown restless, questioning the club's readiness to spend at the top end of the market. [LNB]United have spent a net £32.4m on new players since the Glazers took ownership of the club in May 2005, but Ferguson insists that the money is there for a raid on the transfer market if he wishes to recruit additions to his squad. [LNB]He said: "It has been said I do not have the money, but the money is there if I wanted to use it. [LNB]"I didn't see any value in the summer and I don't see any value at the moment either. I am happy with the players I already have at the club." [LNB]
