Sir Alex Backs Welbeck

Sir Alex Ferguson is still backing Danny Welbeck to come good even though he seems to have temporarily lost his goal scoring ability.

Welbeck has now gone 14 games without finding the net, the 22 year old is still hungry to score, but the goals just will not come.

But that makes no difference to the United boss who still sees Welbeck as just as important part of his striker set up as any of the others, he is sure that he will eventually get the break he needs and comes good from there.

A year ago at the start of 2012, the striker could not stop scoring, but the start of this year has been a very different experience for the player, he has not found the net since October when he scored his only goal this season, that came against Stoke City.

“Danny has done very well. He is progressing just as we expected,” says Fergie.

“He has become quite an important figure in terms of team selections. When you have a player who is as mobile as that and playing so well then it always gives you a headache to choose the right players.

“As we have always said, you have to choices to make. When you have good choices it makes it difficult.”
