Scudamore defends squad rotation

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore insists Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is well within his rights to field a weakened team against Hull City. After wrapping up the Premier League title with a goalless home draw with Arsenal last weekend, the Red Devils manager is expected to rest his key players for their final league game of the season at the KC Stadium. With Ferguson's troops taking on European giants Barcelona in next week's UEFA Champions League final, the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Nemanja Vidic and Edwin van der Sar should all be rested. That means the Tigers, who are scrapping for their top-flight lives, should have a better chance of overcoming United than they would have if the Old Trafford side could still be overtaken by Liverpool. That could have massive ramifications at the bottom of the table as Hull are still battling it out with Sunderland, Newcastle and Middlesbrough to avoid relegation on the last day of the season. Significant game"You can't alter the fact they've won the league and they've got the most significant game the following Wednesday against Barcelona," insisted Scudamore. "You have to be realistic: they've got a squad, and therefore you can't argue that they deploy the benefit of that squad in a game on Sunday." Although Ferguson's strongest XI might not be in action in East Yorkshire, Scudamore still believes United will be going all out for the win. "They are the most professional of professional football clubs," he said. "Sir Alex Ferguson's going to put a team out that he intends to win that game on Sunday."
