The German international has been in the news today following a statement regarding his future at Bayern Munich. The player’s contract expires in 2016 when he will become a free agent.

Reports in the Express claim that the players comments will be of interest to Chelsea and Man United who could launch bids. The 30-year-old midfielder spoke to Kicker:

"I am in no hurry to renew. It's not something that bothers me because I have a year before it expires.

"The important thing is that my physical problems and injuries are resolved. The rest will follow."

Van Gaal is said to be keen on the services of the World Cup winner but could face stiff competition from Jose Mourinho who was also named as someone who would jump at the chance to strengthen the Blues in the heart of the team. United did try to sign Schweinsteiger after the appointment of Louis Van Gaal but the player rejected an Old Trafford switch says the report.

Of course the report is just speculative and there is no indication that the player himself would move to the Premier League. Schweinsteiger has made 328 appearances for Bayern Munich and is known for being a specialist at set pieces as well as having exceptional dribbling skills.
