Scholes targeting top form
// A bit of a hack but it works// The article snippet is wrapped onto a second line, even when #article-sub is emptyif( $("div#article-sub").children().length == 0 ) {$("div#article-sub").remove();} Manchester United veteran Paul Scholes believes the best is yet to come from the Premier League champions.[LNB] United are currently second in the Premier League table and top of their UEFA Champions League group after going on an unbeaten 11 game run until last Sunday's loss at Liverpool.[LNB]While Sir Alex Ferguson's side have been grinding out results, Scholes believes they are not at their fluent best performance-wise and he is expecting the Red Devils to soon switch on the style.[LNB]The midfielder told United Review: "I would not say we have been stuttering, but we have not been as fluent as we know we can be.[LNB]"There has been the odd performance - like Tottenham away - where everything has come together, but I think the best is ahead of us.[LNB]"We are not too worried about our form, because traditionally we are not great at the start of the season.[LNB]Difference"The difference this time is that, more often than not, we've still been winning games - so I cannot complain too much.[LNB]"But we would like to get back to the top of the league - with style.[LNB]"Some teams might settle for getting results, but here at United we aim a little higher."[LNB]Meanwhile, United boss Ferguson believes Edwin van der Sar's return between the posts is a big plus as the Red Devils contend with defensive injuries.[LNB]Key defenders Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand are struggling to face Blackburn on Saturday because of calf injuries, while Gary Neville is suspended, but Ferguson is not too worried because of the Dutchman's influence.[LNB]He said: "We had exactly the same thing last year. We had a lot of injuries to the back four time and time again. Yet we went 14 games without losing a goal.[LNB]Key"I think the key is having Van der Sar back. He is a marvellous, fantastic goalkeeper.[LNB]"It is incredible to think that at 39 years of age he has retained his fitness and motivation to play all the time.[LNB]"It's brilliant and does make a difference, because he helps to settle things down."[LNB]Ferguson is also pleased with the progress of midfielder Owen Hargreaves, who is recovering from tendinitis in his knees.[LNB]The United boss said: "He is doing fine and coming along. I think in a couple of weeks he should be back or near to coming back.[LNB]"It is difficult to assess when a player has been out for a year with that type of injury.[LNB]"We are not pushing him. We are doing it nice and calmly in terms of football work." [LNB]
