Scholes confident of pipping Porto

Paul Scholes sees no reason why Manchester United cannot win in Porto on Wednesday night to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League. Mariano's late leveller at Old Trafford handed the Portuguese side the advantage heading into the second leg, with two away goals secured in the 2-2 draw cause for confidence in the Porto camp. No English side has ever won at the Dragao Stadium but Scholes, who scored the opener in Saturday's 2-1 win at Sunderland, believes the task faced by Sir Alex Ferguson's side is definitely achievable. "All we've got to do at Porto is win a football match," said Scholes. "With the players we've got I'm sure we can do it. "After an uncharacteristic shaky spell of late, Scholes believes the Stadium of Light win could be just the boost United need. "It's always nice to get a win. It always boosts your confidence. I think we needed a little boost. "That was a big win for us. Liverpool had won beforehand and Chelsea won as well. It doesn't increase the pressure. You have to do your own job." Scholes reserved special praise for match-winner Federico Macheda. The 17-year-old's dream start to his United career continued in the North East, as he came off the bench for the second league game in succession to net his side a crucial three-point haul. At the other end of his career, veteran Scholes knows it is important for young players to keep grounded but nonetheless had words of encouragement for the Italian starlet. "I think he scored with his first or second touch and he looks like a great goalscorer and, hopefully, there's more to come," he concluded. "He's a young lad but I'm sure the other boys will keep his feet on the ground."
