Rooney's business manager Stretford: I didn't need a deal with Wayne

Wayne Rooney's business manager Paul Stretford claims the bond between him and the player is such that the Manchester United striker has not signed a contract since 2006.[LNB] He also admitted he did not explain the player's first contract to him and his father when Rooney signed with him in 2003.[LNB] On the ball: Manchester United's Wayne Rooney[LNB] Rooney is being sued for £4.3m by Stretford's former management company Proactive - now known as James Grant Group.[LNB] Under cross examination at Manchester's Civil Justice Centre yesterday, Stretford said: 'The last contract registered with the FA was September 2006.[LNB] 'That was the last time that Mr Rooney had a football contract with either Proactive or myself.[LNB] 'He would consider me as his manager.[LNB] 'I would suggest that both Wayne and his family were very happy with the care that was taken of them by myself from January 2003 on onwards.'
