Rooney - United set standard

Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United can rightly claim to be the best side in the world at present.[LNB] Victory in the World Club Cup in December sees the Red Devils recognised as Fifa's No.1, while continued success at home and in Europe suggests Sir Alex Ferguson's men have every right to be viewed as the planet's most complete side.[LNB]Their dominance in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League over recent years has been unrivalled, with United continuing to re-write the history books on a regular basis.[LNB]Competition for their lofty perch could, however, come from near neighbours Manchester City in the not too distant future, with the Blues now bank-rolled by the considerable wealth of the Abu Dhabi United Group.[LNB]Rooney, though, insists United will continue to reign supreme for some time yet, and hopes to put City in their place when Mark Hughes brings his team to Old Trafford on Sunday.[LNB]"It is down to them what they do with their money," said the England striker.[LNB]"But we know we are the best team in the world are at the minute. It is there for them to see.[LNB]"Sunday is just one game of football and you cannot read too much into it.[LNB]"But it still hurts that they did the double over us last season, so we will be looking to do the same to them, having won at Eastlands."[LNB]GloryDerby day glory this weekend would see United take another positive step towards retaining their Premier League crown.[LNB]With time running out, the Red Devils currently hold a three-point lead over closest challengers Liverpool with a game in hand.[LNB]Rooney is keen to get a third consecutive title wrapped up as quickly as possible, as a comfortable victory over Arsenal on Tuesday has also sent United to a second UEFA Champions League final in as many years.[LNB]"You would like to think we can finish off the league as quickly as possible," he said.[LNB]"We are in a great position and if we can win the next two matches I think we will be all right.[LNB]"Of course, if we won it early it would give us a break before the Champions League final.[LNB]"But I have to say, if we have to win the league on the last day of the season I would take that now."[LNB]
