Rooney has said sorry - Capello

Fabio Capello has revealed Wayne Rooney apologised to his England team-mates after he was sent off in Friday night's 2-2 draw with Montenegro.[LNB] Rooney's dismissal - the second of his international career - took the gloss off a result that was enough to confirm England's presence at Euro 2012.[LNB]And it was needless too. Kicking out at Miodrag Dzudovic, right in front of England manager Fabio Capello, Rooney gave German referee Wolfgang Stark little option to brandish the red card.[LNB]It means the 25-year-old joins David Beckham as the only men to have been sent off twice for England, and more important rules him out of the first match in the finals next summer, and possibly more depending on how UEFA choose to deal with the matter.[LNB]"He made a silly mistake and said: 'Yes, sorry'," said Capello.[LNB]"It's a red card. You can't defend that.[LNB]"He's a really important player with a lot of experience, and he's played really important games.[LNB]"But he has made a silly mistake. I have seen players like him do that. You can't understand why."[LNB]Coming just a day after his father was arrested as part of a police investigation into an illegal betting scam in Scotland, it raised the question as to whether he should have been picked.[LNB]Montenegro coach Branko Brnovic was of the view he would have been better left in the stand.[LNB]"I read in the newspapers that Rooney has some family problems in England," said Brnovic.[LNB]"To be honest, I didn't expect him to play because those things are serious and it's not easy to concentrate on the game.[LNB]"They're serious, and maybe that's why he did what he did."[LNB]Capello though defended his decision.[LNB]"It was not a mistake," he said.[LNB]"He kicked the opponent. Now he will not be able to play the first game in the Euros as he will be suspended.[LNB]"He was not happy because he missed some control and some passes. For this reason, I think he reacted. His reaction was to kick the opponent."[LNB]It was a remarkable statement, for which Capello had no explanation.[LNB]"I can't enter into the head of Wayne Rooney when he plays," said Capello.[LNB]"I can speak before. I can substitute him. I can find different solutions. But you cannot understand during the game, why things happen. And I don't mean just Rooney."[LNB]Capello at least tried to draw some of the focus back to the achievement of reaching his second major tournament in his 40th game as England coach.[LNB]The contrast in the start and end of the game could not have been more marked.[LNB]For 44 minutes, England strolled around with a sense of superiority.[LNB]Ashley Young nodded home Theo Walcott's cross to put the visitors ahead before Young teed up Darren Bent for his fourth goal in five games.[LNB]At that point England looked certain to become only the fourth visiting team to win in Podgorica.[LNB]However, Elsad Zverotic pulled one back with the final kick of the half and from that moment, England were subjected to a torrid examination, which they probably would have survived if Rooney had remained on the pitch.[LNB]In the end, Andrija Delibasic scored the equaliser which secured Montenegro their place in next month's play-offs, to the obvious delight of their supporters who swarmed on the pitch at the end.[LNB]"I am really happy," said Capello.[LNB]"I said that to the players after the game because our goal was to qualify.[LNB]"We are first in the table. This is the most important thing.[LNB]"It's been a good experience for the players to understand they need to be focused for 90 minutes, not just for 35.[LNB]"I hope we have learned a good lesson for the future.[LNB]"The result was okay for both teams, which is why we are both having a chance to go to the finals."[LNB]However, the spectre of Rooney's actions will linger, with his punishment due to be unveiled prior to a planned Wembley friendly against Spain.[LNB]"I am not happy," said Capello.[LNB]"I spoke with him. More than that, I can't do.[LNB]"We will find a solution to play without him. We will try something in the next games, the friendlies that we play, to prepare for the future."
