Ronaldo's true value: History lesson scares Real as Asians clamour for star

Real Madrid are feeling the Cristiano Ronaldo effect both on and off the pitch. The club seem to have gone into meltdown since he missed his first match for the club because of injury - with the La Liga giants losing to Sevilla just before the international break. But, while they ponder up to a month without him because of an ankle injury, Madrid have been cheered up by the money they could make from letting him play show games in Asia. Spanish newspaper AS reports that they have received offers from Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar to loan out Ronaldo for about £2.75million per exhibition match. The player and Madrid would share the bounty 50-50 under deal, with matches mooted for the winter and summer breaks. Madrid will also cash in as a team by playing a friendly in the Middle East on December 22, with Ronaldo as the star attraction. His injury could break their ambitions when it comes to business and football, with Spanish newspaper Marca comparing how Manchester United suffered over the last two seasons without their star player. The analysis found that with Ronaldo, United won more, lost fewer and scored more goals than when he was absent. Mind you, the Barclays Premier League champions are doing OK so far this season without the man they sold for £80m in the summer. Esteban Granero, who rejoined Madrid from Getafe this year with a little less fanfare, believes they can cope without the 24-year-old. 'Cristiano is a player who you miss because he always makes a difference, but that doesn't mean Real Madrid depend on just one player,' he said. 'There are great footballers on this team besides Cristiano. He is a world-class player and he was having a great run, but there is a big difference between that and being indispensable. 'We must and we can win without him. We have players who can do a considerable job for the team.'
