“Back to training with the group today. Was a great session. Happy to be fit and able to play again. Looking forward to my next game!” revealed the United striker after speculation started to surface over his Old Trafford future.

The 31-year-old could leave this summer suggested the gossip columns with a ready replacement in the guise of PSG’s Cavani.

The striker has made a total of 26 appearances so far for United this season, scoring 10 goals along the way which is significantly down on the 30 he scored in all competitions in his debut season. This season has been one to forget for van Persie due to injury and there is certainly no question of his quality when fully fit. He is contracted with United until June 2016 after signing for the club on a four-year deal for £22.5m with add-ons.
