Rio warning for City

Rio Ferdinand has warned Manchester City that a summer of spending is no guarantee of success this term. The Manchester United centre-half has seen the Blues spend over £100million in recent months as they look to establish themselves as a force both at home and abroad. City's ambitious owners have made it clear that they are prepared to bankroll an assault on Premier League and European dominance, but are expecting a quick return on their investment. Ferdinand, though, claims that success may not come as soon as they would like, telling City that there is only enough room for one dominant superpower in Manchester. "This city isn't big enough for two big teams," said the England international. "City have loyal supporters that have been crying out for success. They haven't had it, but maybe now they think their time has come with all the money invested. "But money doesn't buy success sometimes. It can do, as you've seen at Chelsea, but they started from finishing fourth, fifth and third in the league. "City are starting from a different position, so time will tell how successful they will be. If they win something this season, then good luck to them - but hopefully we'll be the ones winning big trophies."
