Rio howler hands Foster a chance

RIO Ferdinand's first-half howler has handed his United club-mate Ben Foster a World Cup lifeline. The defender's early mistake led to West Ham keeper Robert Green being sent off as he tried to stop Artem Milevskiy scoring a certain goal. England were forced to bring David James off the bench to face the resulting penalty and Green will now miss Wednesday's game. Foster originally missed out after being sent for scans on bruised ribs sustained in United's League encounter with Sunderland last weekend. But, with Green suspended, Capello has opted to show faith in the United keeper, who has been cleared to join up with the squad as cover for Portsmouth's James. [LNB]
