Rio Ferdinand fronts new National Portrait Gallery campaign

Manchester United defender Ferdinand, 31, joins artist LS Lowry, King Charles II, Lord Nelson, and Mary, Queen of Scots, who are also the faces of the gallery's latest marketing drive. [LNB]The photograph of the Manchester United star relaxing on a large, dark orange chair has been on display at the Gallery and will now be seen on posters, adverts and bus shelters. [LNB]Mary, Queen of Scots' love of golf, LS Lowry's work for 40 years as a rent collector and Horatio Nelson's battle with chronic seasickness are also highlighted in other posters. [LNB]Ferdinand, 31, who was promoted by England manager Fabio Capello on Friday after John Terry's downfall, was photographed in a studio by Mark Guthrie in March last year. [LNB]Denise Ellitson, Head of Marketing at the National Portrait Gallery, said: "Research has shown us that visitors really enjoy the mix of old and new portraiture on display at the Gallery and we hope that this new campaign will encourage those who have not visited before to discover the diversity and relevance of our collections."[LNB]
