Reserves outing for Bebe

Manchester United's surprise summer signing Bebe will make his first appearance for the club in a reserve-team outing against Aston Villa. Twelve months ago, the 20-year-old was featuring in the third tier of the Portuguese league but then came to Sir Alex Ferguson's attention after a move to Vitoria Guimaraes. Bebe spent just five weeks with Vitoria before joining United in a deal said to be around £7million, even though Ferguson admitted he had never seen him play. Ferguson then opted not to select Bebe for duty with the reserves prior to the international break, pointing out the forward's fitness levels were not up to the standard required. However, with two weeks' more work and a couple of matches for the Portugal Under-21 side behind him, Bebe will face Villa's second string this evening, with United fans keen to get their first glimpse of a player who is still an unknown quantity.
