Republic duo set for debuts

Giovanni Trapattoni will give Robbie Brady and David Meyler their Republic of Ireland debuts in Tuesday's friendly with Oman at Craven Cottage.

Brady, 20, is yet to make his Manchester United debut, but last week became the Republic's record goalscorer at Under-21 level and goes straight into the full team after being called up for the first time by Trapattoni following Friday's 2-1 win in Kazakhstan.

Sunderland midfielder Meyler will finally made his Republic debut after spending two years battling a couple of serious knee injuries.

Sean St Ledger has been unable to recover from a knee injury so Hull's Paul McShane will partner Fulham man Stephen Kelly at the heart of the defence just in front of Millwall goalkeeper David Forde.

Seamus Coleman and Marc Wilson will play at right-back and left-back respectively while Andy Keogh and the only survivor from the team that won in Astana - James McCarthy - complete the midfield.

Kevin Doyle will captain the side for the second time and will be partnered up front by West Brom striker Shane Long.

James McClean's Twitter outburst at being left on the bench in Kazakhstan has cost him a place in the starting line-up. The 23-year-old is expected to be among the substitutes.

Robbie Keane, John O'Shea, Darren O'Dea, Jon Walters, Keiren Westwood and Glenn Whelan have been released back to their clubs and will take no part in the friendly in south-west London.

Republic of Ireland XI to face Oman: David Forde (Millwall), Seamus Coleman (Everton), Stephen Kelly (Fulham), Paul McShane (Hull), Marc Wilson (Stoke), Robbie Brady (Manchester United), James McCarthy (Wigan), David Meyler (Sunderland), Andy Keogh (Millwall), Shane Long (West Brom), Kevin Doyle (Wolves).
