Redknapp makes a case for his Spurs defence but admits United stars Vidic and Ferdinand are top clas

Harry Redknapp has hailed Old Trafford central defensive duo Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic as the main reason for Manchester United's success this season.[LNB]Central figures: Nemanja Vidic (right) and Rio Ferdinand[LNB]United's 2-0 defeat of Portsmouth saw them regain the leadership of the Barclays Premier League and, as Tottenham Hotspur prepare to play United on Saturday, Redknapp said: 'People talk about United and how suddenly they haven't been the same team.[LNB]'Of course they're not because they had two or three players, especially Rio Ferdinand, missing. When any club loses key players it makes a big difference.[LNB]'Suddenly Rio comes back and plays with Vidic and you see a different team. You need your best players if you're going to be successful.[LNB]'The difference in United when Rio and Vidic play is like night and day. Rio gives them an air of confidence. He and Vidic look so secure that they're a different team.'[LNB]United beat Spurs in a penalty shootout to win the Carling Cup final but after three clean sheets in four games Redknapp says Spurs travel to Old Trafford in a confident mood because of their defensive solidity. All three have been brilliant and I think that's been the backbone of our success.'
